Question about M.2 drive and PCIe lanes

Hi all

According to Wikipedia, the M.2 slot connects to PCIe 3.0. My question is: is this always true, or is it possible for an M.2 slot to be connected to another PCIe generation? Thanks in advance for any insight.

As far as I know.....M2 is only PCIe 3.0....never 2.0 or anything else.

"Computer bus interfaces provided through the M.2 connector are PCI Express 3.0 (up to four lanes), Serial ATA 3.0, and USB 3.0 "

Thanks for the response Jay. Do you know why an M2 drive would say that it is connected to PCIE 1.0?

No idea.
PCIe 1.0 went out in 2007 and there were no M2 drives in 2007.
