I'm looking to add a Samsung 970 EVO to my system. My motherboard is an MSI x99a SLI Plus, and I was curious about compatibility. The MSI website doesn't list the 970 EVO or Pro specifically as being compatible, but does list the 960 EVO/Pro. I was curious if there's a real difference there or not, and if there is whether there'd be an issue with backward compatibility not taking full advantage of its advertised speeds. The motherboard supposedly supports M.2 Gen3 x4, but I just want to be certain before purchasing, thanks.

Solution
If it's compatible with the 960, then it'll be compatible with the 970. Only difference in the 2 models are most likely controller and/or nand size. The connection type is the same.
