question about os.

do i need to use a OEM OS on a pc i am building myself or can i use a retail version? does it matter?

I'm new to building, and i'm trying to buy what i need (monitor, OS, mouse, keyboard) before buying the components.

You can use OEM or retail. The difference is that the OEM version will be tied to the motherboard you activate it on and can't be changed.
