Question about partitions and drive letter paths

Hi guys, i bought another ssd and wanted to take out my old one! I formatted it and also right clicked in the disk management and deleted its volume and it became unallocated space, which pretty much means i deleted its partition (correct me if i'm wrong)
However it's drive letter path ( D ) wasn't cleared so that my new ssd can be mark with it!
How do i free up that drive letter path? (I have local disk C,D,E originally but it won't free the D )

Drive letter is assigned by OS, it doesn't matter what letter was before even if it wasn't reformatted.
A and B are assigned to floppy disks, C: is always assigned to system drive and rest is assigned by OS in order they appear in BIOS. All other ones after system/boot drive can be changed in OS later.

Free the D haha

You can change drive letters in Disk management the same way you cleared it's partition; right click on the drive and choose to change drive letters/paths
