I'm going to preface this with I ain't looking to use it or download it at all, but you guys are a lot smarter than I am and know what you're talking about when it comes to computers. I'm over on another forum trying to inform people that this isn't program doesn't work, is harmful and is pretty much them engaging in piracy.

I already know about the legality of it(Even if they deny it), but I wanted to know from people who know way better than I do. Would forcing Windows Server 2008 R2 updates on a Windows 7 PC(regardless of Home, Professional, or Enterprise) do anything beneficial for the user or would it just do a whole lot of nothing and leave the person vulnerable to any payload that the person giving out these "free" updates injected into their package?

By the way, in case anyone is wondering, I use windows 11 and have told these people that if they don't want to use Windows 10 or 11, they could just use Linux and be more secure.

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

If the update wasn't rolled out for Windows 7, then there's nothing to discuss here.

I'd like to commend you for trying to inform them of what route to take but at the end of the day you need to accept that the path they walk is for them to choose, not for you to force feed down their oesophagus.

My 2 cents on the matter.

Is this because of this thread? It looks like they're saying they've used the dism to install later updates to win 7
I haven't a clue if it's possible, though. Be interesting to see what others here say
Yes, it is because of that thread. The main point is that they're trying to Crowbar Windows Server 2008 R2 Updates from the ESU(which are paid updates that they are downloading for free, which is piracy) into Windows 7, while claiming that because it's NT 6.1, they're compatible.

If it does what it says, and only what it says, it is likely "safe".

However, without a deep independent investigation into the whole thing...no idea of what it actually does.
