I have a question about the stats that my characetr has.

She is a high elf Battlemage.

For some reason, one of her stats is red and is much lower (by about 17
points) than it should be. Does anybody know why??

Attributes can get lowered for various reasons. Diseases lower stats,
certain spells enemies cast on you, trap etc.

Check if your character caught a disease, you would see an icon in the
magical effects toolbar on the lower right. If not, you probably ran
into a "Damage <stat>" spell or trap.
As solution, visit the next Imperial Cult or Temple altar, where you can
heal diseases and restore the attributes. Or go and learn "Restore
<stat>" spell and heal yourself. Or get a potion which restores the
stat. Having "Cure Common Disease" and some restore spells, or the same
as potions for the not so magically inclined dudes available is a good
idea as various critters lower your stats quite often, so running to an
altar can get annoying when you are in the middle of a dungeon. You can
buy those spells at the Temple or Imperial Cult.

Basically there are three types of "Lower some stat" effects:

* Drain -> only temporary. You will see the lowered stat in red, but it
will restore itself when the spell wears off, usually after a minute or so.
* Damage -> The stat is also written in red, but the effect lasts until
cured by altar/potion/spell
* Disease -> Stat is lowered until the disease is cured
