I downloaded a .rar from an adventure games website that
contained, supposedly,a saved game file where all levels and extras could
be accessed in the psychonauts-PC game.
I finished the game up to the point where little olie needs to be
rescued, but ,after days of trying, could not get anywhere with this
level. I posted on numerous sites asking for someone to email me a saved
game-profile where the game had been completed but noone replied...so I
figured this file would be my savior!
Anyway,upon downloading the file,the instructions read,in part:
<<< Unpack the included rar file into your Psychonauts/bin/ directory
and overwrite if asked. You now have access to all levels
included bonus levels.>>
The files inside the rar are .PUP files, reading, for instance,as follows:
<<<PTSave_MP_LoadLevel01.pup>>>
Firstl, there are NO PUP files anywhere within the PC version of this
game,in the saved game folder or anywhere on my PC! What's a PUP file?
Second, there IS no "/bin/directory ANYwhere within the Psychonauts game.
Does anyone know what PUP file is? Where the "bin" directory would be
in the game (I've looked everywhere within the game's folder for it....).
I've also tried unpacking the file inot the actual saved games
folder...still a no-go.
Thanks for any help.

I have no help to offer with your save game problem (I have no PUP
files in my Psychonauts install, either - the saved games have no
file ending at all), but I have now passed the point where you gave
up, and I can give you a hint so that you can hopefully continue from
where you are. Rescuing the turtle is not an action sequence. Stay
away from the doctor! I assume you have tried picking the turtle up,
and that didn't work, since he's too far from the opening. You need
to find an object that will help you solve the problem.

If you give the turtle the cake, it will move to the opening so that

I hope that's of some help!

Thanks for replying rikard (I tried sending you a personal email but it
bounced back). I ahev gone past this point in the game already...and am
now in the meat circus...and just canNOT save little ollie before he
gets killed. Once jump, then two I can make in time....but he always dies
and I cant do it; After a full week of trying I plainly give up,and only
a saved game will help me. I have never enjoyed so much...and contrarily
have never been so annoyed by...an adventure game before. Grrr I HATE
platform jumpers...even worse,,,,TIMED platform jumpers.
So if anyone has a saved-profile with the game finished that they want
to send my way that would be just fine. Tnanks a bunch...or just LMK
what the heck a PUP file is so I can use this person's downloaded file.

Oh, Ollie was the bunnie. I got the names mixed up. Then you're at
basically the same place as I am currently. (I got past the butcher,
but then I got killed by (name avoided to avoid spoiler, but you can
probably guess who), so I have to start over from the beginning of the
circus. When I get past that part, I could send you a save if you still
want it by then. (I think this is probably the last part, though, so
I'm not sure what use a saved game after this point would be, or even
if you can save the game after this point.)

I like platformers, which is why I bought this game, but timed parts
can get frustrating in any game. (Loved the milkman and the lungfish,
btw!)

Hello again my friend. I may have the names mixed up. I'm still at the
beginning of the meat circus level where little oleander hops from one
meat to another with his bunny. I cant get past the spinning wheel
before he gets killed. Again, tried for a week and gave up (that's
right...a week! I HATE platform jumping in games and really,I"m lousy at
it).
So even if you have a saved game that gets me past the level where you
save little oleander (the jumping part) that would be great. If not,I
understand. I'm onto another game now anyway (Still Life). Good luck
finishing the game.
I guess limiting myself to playing with keyboard only limits me for
platform jumping. I've loved psychonauts otherwise.
thanks again rikard...enjoy the rest of your weekend

If you hate platform jumping, one wonders why you bought a platform
game. But I would probably have felt the same if I played it with the
keyboard (Hooray for joystick!) and had been stuck in the same place
for a week. (The second spinning wheel is harder, btw. The first one
wasn't that bad once I figured out what to do. Which took me many
tries, of course, much due to the timed nature of the thing.)

I don't have a save past that point and haven't been playing it for a
couple of days now. I allowed Psychonauts to steal all me free time for
a full week after I installed it, so I have some catching up to do in
other areas.

I may give it my attention again in a week when summer break starts
(I'm a teacher), or maybe after the 2:nd of July (when I have an
important concert) but I will get back to it, and I'll let you know
when I have a saved game for you.

I'd appreciate it. Apparently noone anywhere in the adventure gaming
community has any saved games from near the ending of psychonauts
available for uploading ;-(
Anyway, best wishes with your concert....and look forward to summer break
(my dad was a teacher for 40 years and we looked forward to his summer
break every year!)

Now I have finished Psychonauts! I recommend it without hesitation to
all who like platformers - this is a great game. Absolutely one for the
"top ten".

I also have a saved game past the point where you (dohh) had trouble,
and I'm uploading it to http://trumgottist.com/tmp/savedgame5 . I'm
guessing that file is all that's needed.

There will be one more timed sequence later (slightly easier), but
should you give up at that point too, I'm willing to create a saved
game past that point, too. Just let me know. (You don't want to miss
the ending.)

oh Lord. hello again. Your saved game works just fine, but unortunately
the point of your saved game is at the beginning of fred napolean's
mind...nowhere near the meat circus part of the game where I was stuck.
Perhaps a later saved game?? Thanks again for the trouble,Rikard.

Oops. Then it should be saved game number four you want.
http://trumgottist.com/tmp/savedgame4
The right save was the fifth in the list, but when I look more
carefully I see that the first one is A, not 1.

That's what it is. A platform game. Running and jumping is an integral
part of the gameplay, and while the game has a lot of adventure in it
(plenty of story, exploration and puzzles along with inspired
characters and settings) the puzzles are in a platforming context. Most
puzzles are about beating baddies (and many, maybe even most, baddies
are beaten by a puzzle).

thankfully, saved game 5 takes me past where I could NOT get.
Naturally,I'm even having trouble getting past the meat-cleaver butcher.
DOnt know how I made it this far into the game (Meat Circus level) to
begin with!
I took a look at your site;saved games 0-5 are good saves but saved game
6 comes up as a corrupt file....is saved game 6 even later in the game
than saved game 5? If it is,I sure would love to have that one, too!
Take care and thank you once again

The butcher is more a puzzle than an action sequence. Try it again.
(No, I don't have any more saves, but I could create one if needed.)
