Question about purchased RAM

Hello,

I just purchased 2 of these Ballistix Sport LT 8GB Single DDR4 2666MHz memory modules (https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820164010) and was wondering if by purchasing 2 single ones that I will still get the same speeds and outcome of the timings as I would buying a "kit." Sorry for asking a dumb question.

Yes you will get the same speed as a kit. Kits are just better in terms of avoiding compatibility issues.

Being identical you should be fine , most of the time no issues.

Not a dumb question, the reason there sold in kits is for compatibility reasons and they've been tested together. Using two separate sticks may work or may not work but the times I've added kits together I personally haven't run into problems. Since you've already ordered it you might as well try it out, just make sure the speed is set correctly in the BIOS (XMP).

Ram is sold in kits for a reason.
A motherboard must manage all the ram using the same specs of voltage, cas and speed.
Ram from the same vendor and part number can be made up of differing manufacturing components over time.
Some motherboards, particularly AMD can be very sensitive to this.
This is more difficult when more sticks are involved.
That is why ram vendors will NOT support ram that is not bought in one kit.
It is safer to get what you need in one kit.
But, it is a bit more expensive because of the added matching of all the sticks to insure compatibility.

Your performance should be the same, assuming you can get both sticks to play well together.
If you have problems, try increasing the ram voltage a touch.
Test with memtest86.
You should be able to complete a full pass with NO errors.
