Question about Radeon Cards and Physx

Hello, I'm planning on getting a 7870 Ghz Edition card and I've heard that some games won't even work if I don't have a Physx enabled NVIDIA card. Is this true? I've also heard that some multiplayer servers will kick users that don't have physx supported cards. I doubt that is true, but can anyone shed some light on these rumors? Thank you

No. thats untrue. Only some extra effects will be disabled. The effects aren't even that noticeable and they bring down your fps. Dunno about the servers though since that is player controlled.

Wasn't there an unreal tournament III map that required PhysX? That was a long time ago and the map wasn't part of the main game. Other then that you shouldn't have any real problems as a result of not have PhysX.

Only a small portion of today's modern games support Nvidia's PhysX. It's just a 'special feature' that makes for a more real gaming experience. It is just a feature you can turn on or off. If you turn it on with an AMD card you will suffer severe performance impacts since it is made for Nvidia GPUs.

Phys-X was originally a CPU thing, then Nvidia optimized it to offload Physics calculations from the CPU onto the GPU while also providing dynamic physics/movement capability, Physx is installed because of your CPU.

So really you can run physx off you cpu, i have done this in games like boarderlands 2.

Random and asian are correct. If theres any server that kicks you for being an amd guy thats just personal. But its just some extra effects nothing critical looks neat though.
