Question about RAM speed vs. CAS latency...

I plan on using the Intel E6750 with the GA-P35-DS3L mobo which says the "memory standard" is DDR2 800. I don't plan on overclocking much it at all.

1. Must I only use DDR2 800 memory with this motherboard?

2. If not, which is faster and recommended...DDR2 800 memory with a CAS latency of 4 OR DDR 400 with a CAS latency of 2? I guess what I'm asking, is DDR2 800 with a slower CAS latency better or worse than a DDR 400 with a higher CAS latency? Again, that's if it is even compatable with the above stated setup.

Thanks.

First of all, DDR RAM (PC3200) will not work in a DDR2 MB. PC6400 800 mhz. DDR2 is fastest the MB will officially support, but with some tweaking DDR2 800mhz. will clock over 1000 mhz. on some systems. PC5300 DDR2 667 mhz. would work in the MB too and clock upward towards PC6400's 800mhz. ability.

To answer your 'which is faster question..

PC6400 DDR2 = 6.4 GB/second data transfer rate

PC3200 DDR = 3.2 GB/second data transfer rate.

The CAS latency timings are RAM timing adjustments that are not directly related to the amount of data transfer rate capability.
