Question about registry cleaner softwares

Hi,

I think my PC needs a registry cleanup. I know there's alot of softwares that states they do this, but which one should I choose? Freewares and "paywares" are both welcome.

Could a registry cleaner do more bad than good?
Could it damage my pc?, make it unbootable, making drivers corrupted etc.
