Hello,

I recently purchased new ram 32gb Corsair LPX 3600 MHZ (16gb+16gb)
I still have my old Corsair HyperX 2933 MHZ (8gb+8gb)

Question 1 : Can I run all 4 and still use xmp? , I know it will be only at the 2933 MHZ speed but wont it overall benefit me?
Question 2 : If I can run both together, should I just set XMP to Profile 1? or should I do other stuff as well?

Thanks for the answers!

worked for me on ddr3
i'm not sure about ddr4 and ddr5

DDR3 is quite forgiving and can work when mixing different sized DIMMs (e.g 8GB + 4GB = 12GB). DDR4 is more capricious and depending on DIMMs, won't even work if all DIMMs are identical, but bought separately. Haven't had much experience with DDR5 yet.

As far as OP issue goes, chances to even get different sized DIMMs working (to see any image) are slim to none, let alone enabling XMP.

That, you can only get, as a guarantee, if you buy a set of RAM. E.g any of these;
pcpp: https://pcpartpicker.com/products/memory/#b=ddr4&S=2933,3600&Z=65536004&sort=price&page=1

RAM sets linked total at 64 GB and are 3200/3600 Mhz kits, but with a set of 4, you are guaranteed the results. While when you mix your RAM, chances are slim to none.

When RAM DIMMs are made, they are tested with each other and those sticks that get along well are put into sets. First set to be made is the set of 8 RAM sticks and sold as 8x RAM sticks in a set. If the set of 8 doesn't work, it's divided into half which makes up two sets of 4. If the 4x RAM sticks do work together, the are sold as 4x RAM sticks in a set. But if the set of 4 doesn't work, it's again divided into half, making two sets of 2. Two RAM sticks that work well with each other are sold as 2x RAM sticks in a set. Those RAM sticks that doesn't want to work together at all, are sold as single RAM sticks.

I'm sucessfullly running 2x 8GB 3200 16-18-18-18 kit (Hynix chips) and 2x 8GB 3600-16-16-16 kit (Samsung chips) all together with XMP enabled on 3200 Mhz on a cheap Z690 board (MSI PRO Z690-P) + 12700K for over a year now. Mainly gaming. Never had any issues with it. It can run Aida64 Extreme stability test all night easily so I'm prety sure its rock solid.

Just because RAM mixing works in your build, doesn't mean it's the norm. On the contrary, your case is one of the few very lucky ones. So, be happy with what you have.
