Hello, i am a gamer and play on a laptop due to the fact i travel a lot and need something portable. i am about to upgrade very soon and get a new computer. The new one i am considering buying has a resolution of 1600 x 900 on a 17 inch monitor with an ati 5870 in it while my old one has a nvidia 9800 in it but has 1920 x 1200 resolution with a 17 inch monitor too. i know the new one will perform better but my question is how much of a picture quality of a difference will i see? i just dont want my games to not look as crisp and clear by dropping the resolution so i am not sure if i need to hold off until i find one with the higher screen resolution.

Well 1600x900 is quite a downgrade from 1920x1200. 1600x900 = 1,440,000 pixels while 1920x1200 = 2,304,000 pixels. That said 1920x1200 is excessively high for a 17" display. On desktops 1920x1200 monitors start at 24" and 1600x900 monitors are all 20". So while the resolution on your display will be considerably lower the resolution is still well above the norm for that particular size. I'm not sure how much real difference the change will make on such a small display to the human eye. Perhaps go to a local store that sells laptops and has them on display. Try to find one you can check out with 1600x900 17" display to see if it will make a real difference to you personally.
