Hi, I can't seem to understand the exact meaning of this card.

*****
Second Sunrise
1 colorless, 2 white, Instant.

"Each player returns to play all artifact, creature, enchantment, and
land cards that were put into his or her graveyard from play this
turn."
*****

Does any card put into the graveyard AFTER the spell was cast come
back into play?

It's confusing for me (English not being my 1st language).

On one side we have a past tense (were) but we also have a "this turn"

My guess is that they can't after the spell is cast. Otherwise, an
Atog would eat eternally and combos of similar mechanisms would be too
many/powerful... right?

Thnx.

At the time it resolves, anything that went to a graveyard this turn
comes back.

Nope.

The "were" does refer to the past, and "this turn" limits how far back
you're looking for cards. Without the "this turn", anything that had
*ever* gone to a graveyard from play would have come back.

I can see how it's confusing though, as the phrase "this turn" usually
limits how long in the future a continuous effect works. But, that's
not what they're using it for here.

Correct.

You're welcome. Please post again if you have any more questions.

Any card put into the graveyard _before_ the spell _resolves_ comes back
into play. It doesn't matter if it went there before or after the spell
was cast (announced), only whether it is already there by the time the
spell resolves and takes effect. (So you could get stuff into the graveyard
in response to the spell, knowing it'll come back in a minute.)

Nothing that goes to the graveyard AFTER the spell resolves is affected.

>On one side we have a past tense (were) but we also have a "this turn"

That's to limit it: only ones that went (past tense) this turn, not ones
that went last turn or four turns ago.

Nothing that goes to the graveyard after the spell RESOLVES will come back.
But stuff that goes after it's announced and before it resolves will come
back; your Atog can eat stuff in response to the spell, then have it all
come back up (so to speak) as the spell is resolving.

your graveyard...

To be really proper-English-picky, to work as desired it should say
"...*since the beginning of* this turn..." to keep the tenses in line.
But they're trying to cut down the number of words on the cards, too,
and this one's not as confusing as some... :)
