my plan is that i cant afford a better gpu so my idea is getting another one. the one i have atm is ASUS GeForce GTX 1070 ROG Strix Gaming.
and is 1070 ti compatible with this one and what if i buy a oc 1070 is this compatible with the one i have?
1070+1070 or 1070ti+1070ti. Or sell the 1070 and get a 1080ti. Or wait for next gen.
must be the same model, 970 with 970, 1070 with 1070 etc.
BUT only XX70's and above can SLI, and one better card is better than 2 smaller cards. No need unless 4k and above as any other resolution can be handled by a single card of the appropriate size.
im considering going sli but im unsure about how identical the gpu must be to work together, without problems
Depends on what cards you want to sli since nowadays it's only possible on x70 or up cards. Also sli is barely existant in games anymore and almost always poorly implemented making the investment in a secondary gpu not worth it at all. Always get a single more powerfull card over sli. Only do sli if you have money left over and are aware of the many issues, low compatibility and a single 1080ti isn't cutting it.

Sell the 1070 or just wait till prices go back to normal and get a 1080 or up for the same price a 1070 is now.
