Hello, I'm building my first gaming rig and I already have a 1 TB hard drive (from my current computer) that I would be using for storage. I was planning on using a SSD (250GB) for starting my computer and games.

My question is (since this will be a brand new pc, no OS or anything) if I only plug in the SSD and put my OS in that, will that boot to the SSD and not the hard drive?

I tried to watch a video on youtube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qMo8krAJd5Q) but I don't understand all that bios settings.

So would putting the OS on the SSD make the computer start up quicker if I don't put the OS on the hard drive? Or will I have to do that bios stuff? Thanks!!

Solution
You don't need to install the OS on both drives unless you really want to for some reason. You just need to format the SSD to where the BIOS will recognize it as a possible drive and then install the OS onto the SSD and it should run perfectly fine. You will have to format the HDD as well since, I'm assuming both the motherboard and the HDD have never been paired up before, the motherboard would not recognize it as a possible drive until you format it.
