Question about the Corsair h115i pump and fan connections

Hi there!

I have just purchased the Corsair Hydro Series h115i and I have some questions about the pump and fan connections. This is my first build, and my first AIO so bear with me please.

According to the manual I am supposed to connect a 3-pin connector to the CPU_header and then connect the fans' 4-pin connectors to two female connectors. This essentially means that the two fans are only connected to the MOBO with the 3-pin connector in the CPU_header.

As far as I understand, to control a fan with PWM you need to put it in a 4-pin connector on the MOBO. So are the fans not controllable with PWM?

The manual also tells me to connect a usb to the pump to control everything with Corsair Link. I did this and tried to control it with Corsair Link, but that program seems so shitty! Or am I using it wrong?

I hope you can decipher what I am asking here!

If you want to use corsair link:
Fans connected to the splitter
Splitter connected to the pump block
Pump block connected to the CPU header

If you want to use BIOS to control fans:
Fans connected to the mobo
Pump block connected to the CPU header

As far as corsair link, it has improved quite a bit lately.

All I use if for is controlling the pump/fan speeds.

I use 2 profiles.

The stock quiet profile for non-gaming use and a gaming profile (pump full speed, fans 42%)

I can't seem to figure out how to make custom curves on Corsair Link. Anyway, I can see 3 profiles. Performance, Standard and Quiet. Is there a way to make a new one?

And would I have any problems connecting the fans to the mobo instead of the pump?

You need to go into the fan configuration and select mode 'Custom'

Then you can set your own fan settings and save a new profile

The only difference connecting the fans to the mobo is that corsair link can't control them any more.

I prefer them connected to the pump block, as it's just easier for me to use the profiles in corsair link and it frees up more fan headers for case fans

One last question.

Is it really true that I can only set the pump to max or min speed?

Yes, only 2 speeds available for the pump.

I've found it's not too much of an issue really.

Min speed for light/medium use, full speed for higher usage.

For example, running the pump at full speed for a few hours gaming is not going to ruin the pump.

And even at the min speed, it increases with temp rises.
