In the last room of the Hag's lair, where you find the map and
unbinding glyph, there appears to be no normal exit. I notice
that you can easily enter the room without climbing, but that
climbing is required to exit. But what happens to the poor
soul that fails to buy the climbing gloves? Is this the only
place where the gloves are mandatory, or did I miss a hidden button
somewhere?

"I am big. It's the pictures that got small."

Well, at this stage of the game you would be forced to be in possession of
the gloves......there's no other way to get back into the Keeper library
when the glyphs are deactivated. AFAIK there's no other way to get into the
clocktower either.

Hmm, the clocktower wasn't hard to get into without the gloves.
I never tried getting into the upper portal of the library without
them, but with those two boxes lying there it might be doable
(especially combined with smaller boxes that can be carried).
