Question about the slaves

I played as a pally/CoT the first time through. I then tried a
straight pally, imported from SoU. I kept Deekin and Nathyrra as
henchmen. I did essentially everything the same, including buying the
female thrall and sending her back with a fake message. I went to the
slave pens, killed the warden, killed all the beasts in the cages,
then went to free the slaves. They were hostile and attacked me. It
shifted my alignment 10 points towards evil

I loaded my saved game and tried a few different things. I even loaded
the previously played saved game of my CoT to make sure that the
alignments weren't muchly different. Everything except the fact that I
was CoT was the same, same alignments, same actions beforehand.

So why might they have been hostile?

thanks,
geo

The game is broken in this area. It's not a show-stopper, but it's
annoying. This is a known bug, and there is at least one workaround if you
can cast a charm person spell and can be invisible. First kill the
slavemaster, and the surrounding minions, then go invisible (tell your NPCs
to wait somewhere), then go in and cast a charm person or mass charm on the
slave leader, it will reset your status with the slaves.

I tried it once, then never bothered during further playings of HoU. It's
fun in a way, since you can MILD SPOILER ALERT set the slaves free and end
up attacking and destroying the Illithid city. Heck, they deserve it.

Good luck,

Ah, cool, I can do this. I finished the game last night, but I have a
saved game from that area, so will go try it and see if it works. It
was annoying 🙂

thanks!
