Question about updates for WIN 8?

I wanted to ask about installing the updates for windows 8?
My laptop was starting to run really sluggish and was just acting funny overall
when i surfed the web or tried to load pics and video's
so i did a factory reset(this is the second time i have done this)
Now after the reset my HP Laptop was back to the way it should be, fast with no delaying when loading pics or vids. Much faster response.
But like before after installing all the important updates from microsoft it is once again getting slower and not reacting as fast to my commands?
Why would this be? Since updates are needed according to MS and everyone i see talking about them why would they do this to my laptop?

It sounds like there's a software incompatibility of some sort, perhaps even malware installed on that machine. Are you using any third party programs or is just the OS installed?

it cant be malware since it is a factory reset. this makes the whole operating system re-install on the laptop and takes it back to factory fresh.
thats the one thing i love about windows 8,that it has this feature to totally start over with a new install

Don't confuse a factory reset with a clean install. They are NOT the same thing, and in fact HP's factory resets are not even clean by any stretch of the imagination. If you want a clean install, go to the microsoft website and download the windows 8.1 media creation tool, with the version you have installed. That will let you do a proper clean install.

Thanks i did not even know this was possible?
I had been using the the one built in windows 8 to re-install the OS,
so this way is not a clean install?
