I'm currently trying to decide on a card to get for next-gen games, and I'm thinking of getting either a GTX 770 or an R9 280x. However, seeing how long (Sapphire's Tri-X cooler, Gigabyte's Windforce 3x cooler, etc.) and/or heavy (Asus' Direct CU II cooler) these things can be, I'm wondering if it'll have this effect on my PCI-E slot over time. Will I have to resort to supporting it with a column of Lego blocks or some zipties/tooth floss?

Also, if it helps, I have a Corsair 650D case and an Asus P8Z77-V Pro motherboard.

You won't have any problem unless you move the PC around a lot and handle it roughly. If it still worries you, tie up the PCIe power cables. Chances are, as they exit the slotted case and plug into the card, that will support the rear of the card fine. I've had long cards and never had any problems like that. Maybe the pic was after shipping the system somewhere.
