There's currently a deal going on at Newegg for $130 USD off the VG278HE. Now this raises a few red flags...such as clearly inventory on a soon-to-be EoL product. Or that the product is defective and they wish to dump it.

I've heard reports about the "halo" on the VG278H. And one reference to the same issue on the VG278HE.

So, I've decided to ask in a place that surely has the answer I seek. Because rumor has it Newegg may have deleted most of the negative reviews of the VG278H.

If you have recommendations the only rule is the emitter cannot be built-in. I dislike the idea of needing to return an entire monitor to fix an emitter....like saying you need to return the TV because the remote broke.

While 144Hz isn't necessary. I would like to try some of the games I play that are 3D Ready, and worry that 60Hz / 60Hz per image will be...unpleasant (I get splitting heads watching 3D TVs).

I don't know what the story is on the VG278HE's lowered price. I do know when watching a review, when it first came out, with a guy from ASUS there explaining it, he mentioned there was no real purpose to the 144hz other than they wanted to see if they could do it. Now they have done it, perhaps they don't feel a need to continue making them.

As far as the 60hz per eye in 3D goes, that is leaps and bounds better than what you get from 3D TV's, which is 24hz per eye. I cannot say that it will feel any more pleasant for you. I know back when CRT's were used, people used to get headaches at 60hz, but it cleared up at 75hz, so it is possible the increased flicker rate on PC 3D Vision will help you, but everyone is different. For me, the key is making sure to have FPS near 60 (they count the combination of right and left images sent as a single frame). I get nausea with low FPS.

There are a lot of games with different glitches, requiring you to turn off shadows and what not, but I stumbled on a mod site that fixes many of the more popular games out there, and makes them near perfect in 3D, so you'll want to always look here for fixes on games:

Ya, right now I'm running 60fps (Vsync-ed) on a HP w2207h. I just hate buying monitors...I fear I'll have an issue with them. Just enough dead pixels to be noticed, not enough to RMA. Stuff like that.

My secondary monitor (dual-monitor setup), BenQ G2420HDBL, has an internal "smudge" mark on the mid-right side. Maybe a light guide, but it literally looks like some vaseline was smeared on the screen.

So at roughly $480 ($550-ish after the deal ends). I really don't want to end up with a monitor, who's older brother seems to be plagued with a LCD Film issue.

You cannot go to newegg and find a monitor that does not have some people who had issues. Just realize the majority of people don't have it, but these monitors that push the limits may have a higher percentage of problems.

Anyways, if 3D is your goal, you will have to take a chance, and overall, the VG278H gets the highest reviews, even if some have issues. Once you've gone 3D Vision, you may find you are even willing to live with problems.
