question bout onboard audio and built in audio on graphics cards

ok there's always a audio driver for my graphics card? does it have an audio chip that is better then the onboard sound? which do i use

Your graphics card would be putting out audio on the HDMI interface (for things like monitor speakers).
On board sound would be used for standalone speakers, and typically has become quite nice over the past years.

You wouldnt be able to use them interchangeably.
