hey, i have a question about dual cpu systems, in this case a dual p3 1ghz (drool), specifically, could you run, say, win2k pro on it, and have one chip running a network of about 20 computers, doing all the routing and stuff and running the OS of the processor, and have the other processor running serveral dedicated servers at once??? or is that not how it works??

or is it just a case of run the whole lot and let the computer sort out what chip does what???

thanks a lot...

You'd be better off letting the OS choose who runs what, but you can choose which programs run on which processor. You can do this through the task manager. Not sure if it'll allow you to do it for all processes, but say for example, SQL Server, you can have it run on whatever number of processors you'd like. You have another problem. Win2K Pro will not allow more than 10 simultaneous user conections, so you'd be better off with Win2K Server/Advanced Server if you plan on having 20 computers use it as a file server or what not, but not for validating the logons, since Pro doesn't come with all the Active Directory functionality since it's a client OS, it's not really made to be a server OS(it doesn't include all of the services of the Server/Advanced Server versions).

sure you can, if you have the bandwidth. you can run a couple of instances of a program, usually a dual system is thread aware and sorts it all out.

"Amd cpu...Gone in 2 secs flat, it truly is a fast chip!"
