I live in essex, and am currently using sky broadband. (I have sky fibre unlimited 36MB/s) I am somewhat satisfied with the broadband, altough i think it could be better/cheaper with the amount of ping jumping in games/wifi disappearing from time to time. It can get very annoying.

Which broadband would you recommend? I was thinking of maybe TalkTalk, because they have quite good offers. The broadband would be mainly used by my mum (social media/netflix etc) and myself (for gaming). What could you recommend from your experience? (apart from sky, we had quite a lot of problems in the past with them lmao)

Definitely not TalkTalk, if I were to choose. It would be a downgrade from Sky. TalkTalk have good offers, but you get what you pay for. Suggest you start looking at some ISP ratings:

I recommend you compare: TalkTalk, BT, Sky, Plusnet, IDNet, and Zen.

I also suggest a postcode search to get an idea of available products, and general speed statistics in your area - https://labs.thinkbroadband.com/local/postcode-search

Also try the Broadband map to see what your neighbours are getting, which can suggest what potential speeds you can get, but it is limited to neighbours' product choices and their own connection issues (have tried to zoom in on Essex a little - keep zooming in to find your...

Be aware that some Sky Broadband users used get their phone supply from Telewest (wholesale provider), which was the cable provider, and BT wholesale lines were not an option. It's less likely these days, but worth checking out:

https://www.dslchecker.bt.com

Assuming you get a result for your phone number, this means BT Wholesale isn't a problem (I'm pretty sure it isn't anyway), and you can get your exchange, cabinet number, and potential min and max speeds for your products.
