I have an old laptop that I'm using for work and general browsing/media consumption. I had thought about upgrading a few components to at least make it feel snappier, such as getting an SSD and more RAM (it only came with 4GB).

When I opened it, the 4GB RAM that it came with was soldered, but there's one expansion slot. The ASUS site says, " DDR3L 1600 MHz SDRAM, 1 x SO-DIMM socket for expansion up to 8 GB SDRAM "

The part where I got confused is the expansion up to 8GB. Does that mean I can only put a 4GB stick in there because the laptop can be expanded only to 8GB, or does it mean it can take an 8GB stick to get it up to 12GB?

Thanks!
