I bought this item http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811999612 Well i bought 3, and a fan controller that can support up to 1amp per channel, because they pull .9amps each. well i then took and split up the power connectors as it came with a molex like you'd use for a hard drive, and a three pin with rpm detection cable, and soldered together a three pin connector, tested each and they spin up fine and run fine, but i was wondering if modding them like this could have any hidden risks i haven't taken into account. the cables appear to be nearly the same gauge, and the soldering is insulated to prevent shorts. anything i may be forgetting as a precautionary measure?

Yeah made sure the line is feeding a clean 12v just like the previous connections and made 100% sure to match the polarity and try to prevent shorts by binding the solders individually then as a group.
