Question on how pc displays work

Sorry if I worded anything wrong/sound unintelligent. I Just purchased a 144hz Monitor from MSI. (DP, HDMI, DVI) My motherboard does not have display port to run 144hz. My question is, how would I be able to get 144hz without using DVI? Would I have to input hdmi from my pc and then hook up DP from my graphics card? If not, what would I need to do? Thanks for the help!

You just hook up your Display Port cable to your computer through your Graphic's card and it just turns on.

hdmi to hdmi cable. hdmi if it the lastes version supported by the monitor is a digital output and should get you the 144hrz.

Very few monitors support 144 Hz over HDMI regardless of version.
