I am considering to buy this monitor in the future.

Hanns·G HH-221HPB Black 21.5" 5ms HDMI Widescreen LCD Monitor 300 cd/m2 DC 15000:1(1000:1) Built in Speakers - Retail

However, its recommended resolution is 1920 x 1080. This would put more stress on a gfx card and give lower frame rates while gaming. So, my question is if I reduce the resolution on the monitor to 1680 x 1050, will I get the same frame rates as playing an actual 1680 x 1050 monitor? Will the gfx be distored? Am I better off buying a 1680 x 1050 monitor?

Solution
Nope, that resolution maintains the aspect ratio so it wont get distorted, a 4890 would be able to handle 1920x1080 quite well, you wont even need to reduce the resolution.
What graphics card do you have? You cannot reduce the resolution to 1680x1050 from 1920x1080, as the first is 16:10 and the latter is 16:9, if you set it to 1680x975 it should give you the same frame rates with no issue. Or you could just drop the settings a slight bit and get your frame rates back up to playable levels.

I don't have a gfx card yet, I plan on buying parts for a gaming rig on black friday or cyber monday...and I am thinking of getting a XFX 4890 along with the monitor I listed above.

Since you said I can drop the resolution of the monitor to 1680x975, will the video become distorted or blurry?
