Hi, I am looking to upgrade my system RAM and have a few questions Regarding the direction I should take. My question is two part, first on compatibility and secondly recommended course of action.

Currently in my system (i7-4970k and an Ausu v97pro Mobo) I have 8gb of G.SKILL Sniper 2x4gb, DDR3 1866, CAS9 1.5v with 9-10-9-28 timing, factory Clocked.

Would I be possible to use this set with a 16gb set of 2x8gb, DDR 2400, CAS10, 1.6V? For a total of 24gb ram?

Secondly I was thinking of purchasing a 16gb upgrade, in the form of G.SKILL Sniper 2x8gb, DDR3 1866, CAS9 1.5v with 9-10-9-28 timing, and simply slotting them into the 2nd set of channel slots on the mobo. Would running two different size's pose any sort of problems?

I hope I wasn't to vague in what I was asking, any and all answers are most appreciated. Fell free to ask me to elaborate anything if you need me to be more specific.

Solution
If there are any issues it won't be because of the different capacity of the RAM sticks. It would be because of incompatibility in general between the two sets of old and new RAM.

On another note, if you did buy DDR 2400 and use it at the same time as the DDR 1866 your ram will run at the speed of the slowest ram which is the 1866.

Three options:
1. Get DDR 2400 ram 2x8GB and replace the current RAM. (Best option in my opinion)
2. Get DDR 2400 ram 2x8GB and use it concurrently with the DDR 1866. (Fine, but all ram runs at DDR 1866 speeds.)
3. Get DDR 1866 ram 2x8GB and use it with the current ram. (Fine, but the only improvement you're getting is increased capacity. ie.. 24GB RAM vs. 8GB. There is no speed improvement here.)...

And last thing to note is that any time you mix/match capacity, such as 2GB sticks and 4GB sticks, you need to make sure that each channel has the same amount of RAM in it. Your motherboard manual should tell you which slots are Channel A and which are Channel B.
