Hello friends,

I was debating on purchasing Windows 11 and I had a couple of concerns. Does Windows 11 tie the key to the motherboard? I've heard Windows XP has done this and I was wondering if it is the same on his OS. Also, I heard that in Windows XP or Windows 7 that you could only install it a certain number of times.

Thanks for reading!

The licensing rules have changed significantly since XP and Win 7.

A valid Win 10 or 11 license that YOU buy will be transferable to different hardware if the time comes.

Them easing up on the Licensing rules is very good to hear! I just didn't want to possibly have to pay twice or more for an OS because I do format my PC every so often and another one to two upgrades in the near future.

Anyways thanks for your help!

You can do a reinstall, on the same hardware, no problem. It will automagically reactivate itself.

MS considers the motherboard as "the system".
Change that, and you'll have to tell your MS account about the 'new system'.
