what type of "long term storage"?

it depends on the quality of the disc and where\how it's stored.
some lower quality CD\DVDs will degrade over long periods and data can become inaccessible.

i have some over 10 years old that are still perfectly fine.
while i have others that have become discolored or have spots that have developed on the disc itself and are inaccessible.
