Hello and thanks for reading this.
I have a hp proliant dl380 g5 with smart array p400 controller. There are two arrays with 3 disks each, (all samsung sata 500gb disks) One of them started having an ambar led light so looking it up it said i have to replace it with an equivalent hdd.
I bought a WD drive, sata and 500gb like the others, but when i replace it i have an error message saying:
The following disk drive(s) are failed and should be replaced (and the number of bay in which i introduced the new drive.)
I checked the drive for errors in another machine and everything is ok.
Can someone please tell me if I'm doing something wrong or point me in the right direction? I don't know much of servers, but for what i read it should be working and rebuilding the disk...
Thank you very much and if I'm missing any information please let me know
Sorry for my bad english, I'm in a spanish speaking country

Have you rebooted the server? It should prompt for you to rebuild with an F1 on boot.

Second, I might try to add the disk to another bay if the reboot does not work, to ensure the port on the backplane is good. Ensure the system is not rebuilding before you do the second option.

Thank you for the reply
I actually shut down the server before changing the disk, and the failure message is on the boot up.
When i put the samsung disk that is failing (not the new wd) it recognizes it and starts rebuilding it, so I guess the backplane is ok.
Hope that helps
