Hello I have a question on cleaning out ini and dat files on a Win2000PRO system.Is it safe to delete all of them and if not what ones can be safely deleted?? Thank you

Well my understanding is that they are junk files and and there is over a 1000 of them on the system...Is my thinking wrong?

they would have to be examined on a case by case basis. Are they in the system32 directory? I would just type in the name of each of them in Google and see what they're for. But just blindly deleting them is not good.
