Prices in for GC in switzerland suck. 2x in lots of cases. Especially for newer cards.

My question: 9500np or 4200ti? Both are in my price range. Im not going to spend more than 150$ on a 9600np out of principle and the 9600pro is ~200$ and up.

A couple points: How does performance compare out of the box. And what are my chances of modding the 9500np?

Go to link below regarding modding 9500np, third Q & A (last sentance) direct you to a poll indicating success rate. Hope this helps.

The version the shop is selling is a HIS 9500np 64mb. I can only mod it to 9500pro :frown: . Is the card worth it if the mod does not work? And what about HIS, is the company any good?

If a 9500 does not mod to PRO you can usually get decent performance out of them if you overclock.

If it's worth it or not depends on the price...

I recommend you to take the radeon 9500np over the geforce 4ti 4600 because it has better AntiAlaising and AnisotropicFiltering performance.I am not in position to answer your second question because i don't have much informations about HIS video cards.I thik a friend from this forum who has one should tell you his opinion about the quality of HIS video cards.

You'll enjoy the image quality of the 9500 np more. I would go that route. I have compared a 9500 Pro to a Ti4600 and the image quality and overall performance of the 9500 Pro blew the ti away.

Solid quality, but nothing really special. Don't expect things like good OCable ram on them, nice games etc...

Thats my experience from their 128mb 9500Pro.

Asus A7N8X Deluxe, Xp 2500+(3200+), 512MB RAM, HIS Radeon 9500Pro

I got off my fat lazy ass a couple days ago and researched the subject. Thanks anyway.

Anyone has personal experience with HIS? I've been burned before by POS products and this is a company I know absolutely nothing about.

They are OK, their older stuff is very workhorse run of the mill. We get alot of HIS' White-box OEM products around here (I almost bought one [R9000Pro], but when I returned the next day the 5 they had were gone and I couldn't wait 2 weeks for more). Their cards often come with VIVO, a nice added touch. Nothing special to note about them, but from what I've seen they are at least better than Powercolor and Gigapuke.

Their latest offering have a hi-end model (with the ICE-Q cooler) which is getting great reviews.

That's it from here.
