Hello, I plan to upgrade my setup over the next two months. First with an 7700k and a cheap (relatively) Cooler Master AIO and then with a 1440p 144hz monitor.

My question is if i can do 144hz 1440p gaming on low settings, except for texture and LOD which will be on ultra, on competitive multiplayer games and 1440p max settings on single player games and still stay at at least 60 FPS with the following specs?

EVGA 1080ti SC2 Gaming
i7-7700k
16GBs of 300mhz DDR4 RAM

Or would I be better off getting a 1080p monitor instead?

Edit: I also plan on using my current 1080p 60hz monitor as a second display in case this is important. Not for gaming though. Other tasks, like Chrome, Discord, videos etc.

Definitely yes. I play with a 6700k at stock speeds with a pretty basic AIO and at 1080p the most CPU demanding game I play is Battlefield 1 and the CPU still manages my 1070 to spit around 100FPS. The 7700k at stock speeds will do slightly better and noticeably better when overclocked. Anyway the 7700k is known for asking for too much voltage so you shouldn't push the voltage when overclocking or even undervolting.

Anyways, at CPU demanding games you are getting at least 100FPS when it comes to CPU usage.

My specs are as follows.

i5-7600k @ 3.8 GHz

Ballistix Elite 16 GB (2 x 8) @ 3000MHz, and yes I have the XMP profile on.

EVGA GTX 1080 Ti SC2 Gaming

ASUS ROG STRIX Z270F GAMING motherboard

EVGA 700w b1+ PSU

1TB WDB HDD

But as I said I plan to get a 7700k in January and then a 1440p 144hz monitor in February.

It actually will be quite the improvement for high refresh rate gaming. My 7600k paired with my 1080ti can't hit a stable 144fps on BF1 on low settings for instance. And plenty of other CPU intensive games such as Odyssey peg my CPU out at 100%. And everyone I ask tells me that a 4 core 4 thread CPU isn't enough for high refresh rate gaming.

That was an interesting video, but it just proved what I already knew, that the 7600k stutters and isn't enough for high refresh rate gaming on CPU intensive games. But getting the monitor first is food for thought as I could play games like Siege, which I've been playing a lot of lately, at 144hz no problem with the 7600k.
