I have a HP P7-1414 desktop with a MSI MS-7778 (Jasmine) motherboard. On the specifications for the motherboard it says "Dual channel memory architecture" so I was wondering would it be worth running a G.SKILL Ripjaws Z Series 16GB (4 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Quad-Channel DIMMs? Would it run it optimally? Or should I just go with G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) since my motherboard is "Dual channel memory architecture." I talked to G.Skill support and they said to go with the Quad Channel (Probably just because it costs more). But I was just wanting some other input. Also, if you have any other RAM you would like to suggest I am open to suggestions but would like to stick to G.Skill because I am a hardcore gamer. This is the RAM I was wanting to get if it doesn't matter that my motherboard specs say "Dual channel memory architecture" http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231537 ..

Will someone please answer if a quad channel kit of RAM will work optimally on a MSI MS-7778 (Jasmine) motherboard that says "dual channel memory architecture in the specs!?!?!?!

10 people have read this and haven't said even a word. A simple yes or no would be fine.

Thanks.

Solution
Yes if the memory is same.. they will just work in sets of two. So 2x4GB will work in dual channel and the other 2x4GB will work in the second slot in dual channel mode. Hope this helps

Thank the lord someone finally got the balls to answer me. It took a whole day for someone to step up and answer. Thank you very much sir you are a hero. i will be getting the Ripjaws Z Series 16gb (4x4gb) DDR3 1600 (PC 12800) then. Which is here... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231537

I mean you cannot beat those timings. They are insane. Is there any other DIMMs you would suggest? I am looking for either a (4x4gb) or (2x8gb) set. Let me know if you think you know of any other RAM that would be better for gaming. Thanks again for manning up and answering my question unlike everyone else that has read this thread. You know who you are.

The timings are really irrelevant when comparing to real word performance .. i mean we do not process time as precisely like a Cesium clock. My advice is get a Cas 9 with 1866MHz. Here is two kits I found:

Yeah it will run just fine as long as it is 1866MHz but by default it will run on 1600Mhz, as the max transfer rate allowed by your motherboard is 14400 i.e !800MHz x Cas latency 8 = 14400. So you'll need to manually overclock your RAM to its max frequency.
