If I am putting some old discs (with scratch, dust or dirt etc) into my new DVD ROM and reading it, will those dirt or dust accumulated inside the DVD ROM and the next time I put another disc inside , then those dirt or dust would scratch the disc??

by the way, do I really need to clean the "reading side" of an old DVD discs (for example, rubbing against it to remove any dirt or letting it cleaned with damped cloth) before putting it into the DVD ROM ? I am worrying that if any moisture left after cleaning would make it even worse than not cleaning at all. Am I right?

Solution
When the disc is being read, it is not on the try, it is "floating". It is being held up in in the center it should not be touching anything, otherwise it would get destroyed.

I clean my dirty discs. However do not put them in the drive wet.
