What is ips? If I don't have it, is that bad? Please sum it up for me in a non-complicated way.

For gaming, is 5ms good?

What is a good hz for the monitor? Thanks guys!

IPS is a monitor panel technology. It allows for accurate color reproduction and wide viewing angles (everything looks good from the side). You want this if you regularly need other to look at your screen or it you want colors to look like what they are supposed to.

5ms is considered good for gaming if you have never used a lower ms monitor. You most likely would not notice the difference between 1ms and 5ms if you've never used a 1ms monitor for awhile.

60 Hz is the default but gameplay will be smoother if you get a high Hz monitor. You need a good video card for high Hz monitors.

While people will say ips is better color, the difference from high end tn vs low end ips is very little and not noticeable unless you have the monitors next to each other. In terms of normal uses, tn looks better because it has better contrast. Also the higher end ips which will be much better will be slower response times and probably have ghosting issues that you don't want in games.

You're not going to notice 1ms to 5ms as both should not have ghosting issues. Also consider 60hz is 16ms per frame and gtg is changing colors 2 times. But more importantly, it's not a reliable number since they can just say best artificial possible and not real world performance. You can check monitor reviews and averages are not close to what is stated in specs.

You would consider 120+hz for faster paced fps or other games. Just my opinion and usage but I'd spend more to go bigger not faster.

In short IPS (In-plane switching) is a screen technology used for liquid crystal displays (LCDs). It was designed to solve the main limitations of the twisted nematic field effect (TN) matrix LCDs in the late 1980s. These limitations included strong viewing angle dependence and low-quality color reproduction. In-plane switching involves arranging and switching the orientation of the molecules of the liquid crystal (LC) layer between the glass substrates. This is done essentially parallel to these glass plates. It is better than normal LCDs.

5ms is much good for gaming and 60Hz can be good for moderate gaming.
