Hello everybody. I have a few questions/problems I seem to have with my Modem and Router setup.

Let me describe my setup- Modem is plugged into the wall (via port installed by isp) and then my router is plugged in via Ethernet through the back of my modem. My desktop that I do everything on is then plugged in to the back of the router.

Question/Problem #1- I can't port forward. At all. Every time I try to port forward, the ports forwarded never work. Can anybody give me insight on this?

Question/Problem #2- Would it be possible to have a splitter plugged in to the Modem, so that I can have the router AND the Desktop plugged in straight to the modem? This would be used so I dont even have to fiddle with the router on my desktop, just one device between me and the internet.

Question/Problem #3- Would it be possible to use my old router as a network range extender? My current router is a Linksys e2500, While my old router is some old Netgear G router. Could I have the Netgear router point anything that connects top it straight to the Linksys router? If this is even possible, would it be smart to do?

Thanks in advance for answering all of my questions.

Q1) part of the problem could be you modem which you never given the make and model of. the other part could be the ISP who might be blocking certain ports like 80, 25, 8080, 443, 3389, etc ... which ports are you trying to forward? How are you testing the Port Forwards?

Q2) a splitter does not work it would need to be a network switch; however, your ISP is usually only providing One IP which means that either the desktop is online or the devices on the router but not both at the same time. assign a static IP to the Desktop and enter that IP into the DMZ of the Router (no protection from the router).

Q3) maybe but you would have to list the model and version of the router.
