In a week or two i'm planning to rebuild my pc which for the most part is very old. I'm currently using Core 2 Duo e7400, gtx 260, ddr2 4gb, WD blue 1TB, Seasonic S12-II 520w, Deepcool Tesseract case, i'm going to leave the hdd, psu and case and get new mobo, cpu, gpu and ram.
New parts that I picked out:
CPU: i5-6500
GPU: gtx 970
RAM: DDR4 Corsair Vengeance LPX Black 2x4GB 2400MHz CL14
Motherboard: ASUS H110M-A
I'm gonna buy these parts locally and the total adds up to about 630eu.
I'm not sure which gtx 970 to get. There are 3 Gigabyte cards that i'm looking at: a mini version for 293eu, windforce OC version for 302eu and twin turbo OC for 305eu. Don't want to really go more over 630 and look at pricier cards. Got no power problems with 2 of the cards but don't know about the one with windforce which says recommended minimu 550w and needs a 6 pin and a 8 pin. My psu has 6+2 x2 but I don't know if it can actually handle it. Also, i'm using a 24" 1920x1200 60Hz monitor.
This pc is mostly for gaming and some work for university (some programming and some other IT stuff, don't know what's gonna be next year). Not going to use any extra cards or RAID. Just 2 hdds and a few case fans.
So, need recommendation on which gtx 970, opinions on part picks for this build.
Also, will it work if I change these parts and leave the existing windows 10 or do I need to reinstall windows when I change the parts?
