Hey guys, I'm upgrading my old PC and I wanted to throw this list out to see if you can catch anything I might have made a mistake on and ask a couple of questions

I already have a case and a corsair h110i water cooler, plus a couple of SATA storage drives from my old PC

Approximate Purchase Date: This week

Budget Range: about 2800-3000 but can drift further

System Usage from Most to Least Important: videogames (Arma 3, mount and blade: bannerlord, total war:warhammer 2. diverse others)

Are you buying a monitor: No

Parts to Upgrade: CPU, mobo, RAM, GPU, PSU, SSD

Do you need to buy OS: No

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: PCCaseGear

Location: rural Hunter valley, NSW, Australia

Parts Preferences: Intel CPU, Nvidia GPU

Overclocking: Maybe at some point

SLI or Crossfire: No

Your Monitor Resolution:1920x1080

Why Are You Upgrading: Old rig is 4 years old and was midrange then, time for an upgrade

Total: $2,884

Specifically I wanted to ask about the RAM and the motherboard.
  1. Is 4000MHz worth buying or should I drop down to Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 16GB (2x8GB) 3600MHz CL18 DDR4, or even a 3200MHz set
  2. Is this motherboard going to run these components properly or do I need to upgrade it further? I'm afraid the motherboards all look to have very similar specs to my eyes.
Thanks for your time everyone

Looks pretty good.

Do you do anything besides game? 3600mhz CL (crucial is normally the cheapest) here in the us its 95 bucks for 16GB. 3600mhz is the sweet spot. 32gb is nice and if you can swing that I would say go for it.

Tons of Good SSD's. 980 is good. Check out some other SSD's sometimes here Samsung is higher.

B560 should be fine. I have a B560 with a 10700 no issues.

Your power supply pick is great. I think a lot of people don't get good power supplies.

If you can find a 10th gen 10850k for a good bit cheaper its a great CPU and might save you some money. The 11700k is high over here still.

Thanks for the response mate

Gaming is the only high performance thing I use my system for, no video editing or rendering. Possibly some GIS mapping work in the future ( having just asked google it seems recommended to go up to 32GB RAM for that)

I was thinking I could maybe grab another 2x8GB RAM further down the line if I want to go up to 32GB. Would you recommend 2x16 or 4x8 if I was to upgrade that right now?

The samsung SSD runs only a little pricier than the rest but I'm happy to go with the trustworthiness of it

The 10850k is actually $40 more for me, and I wanted an 11th gen CPU because the mobo needs that to run the 4th gen PCiE M.2. My friends told me to drop from an i9 to an i7 because it was just overkill for gaming

A few changes to that build.

The unlocked Intel cpu's are power hogs not to mention they are normally paired with a Z590 board seeing how those cpu's are meant for overclocking. You can run a locked Intel cpu with the power limits turned off in the bios. It's a round a bout way of OC those cpu's as it keeps them in turbo boost mode for longer. btw you'll see zero benefit from RAM clocked higher than 3200Mhz with Intel 10/11 gen cpu's. 3200Mhz is the sweet spot for Comet Lake/Rocket Lake.

Intel 11th Gen Core i7-11700F $469.00

Either of these boards will allow you to run that cpu up above with the power limits turned off seeing how they have excellent VRM's. You just need to pair them up with a decent aftermarket cpu cooler.

850w is super overkill for an RTX 3060 Ti. Super Flower makes the high end power supplies for EVGA. They're as solid as it gets.

Solution
A few changes to that build.

Thanks for the response mate

Anywhere I can find the 11700 in stock, with the separate shipping cost it comes in at about the same price as the 11700K so no savings in that unfortunately.

Thanks for the tip on mobos, I'll switch to a Z590 to have OC available for later. I see you've skipped the Gigabyte UD mobos and recommended the cheapest Aorus for the b560, would you recommend the same for a Z590? i.e Gigabyte Z590 Aorus Elite Motherboard
I've got a corsair H110i for cooling , I'm assuming that should be able to keep up.

Thanks for the info on RAM as well, that will shave a good chunk off the price that I can put to the mobo.

I like to go bigger on the PSU so I can use it on a few builds, I got 2 PCs out of my last 620W.

I'll have a look at changing the gen4 SSD, but I'm happy with 1TB for now as I have other drives

That Gigabyte Z590 board you linked is solid and you can OC the 11700K with it if you choose. That and it has a better audio codec than the B560 boards due to more bandwidth (PCIe lanes).
