So I upgraded from a radeon 6850 to a 290x BF edition this weekend.
The exact card I got is this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202058

Anyways I have a few questions. First off the recommended PSU for this card is 750w. Now I have a corsair gs700w (discontinued now). So every calculator I run says I should be using close to 600w, but I'm still worried. Should I be? Is there a way to test the watts used?
My full system specs:
i5-2500k
2x4gb ram
290x
1 x 240 gb SSD
2 x 1 tb HDD ( one at 7200, one at 10000)
2 x 5400 HDD (old laptop drives)
8 x 120mm fans + a fan controller.

My second question is regarding heat issues with the 290x. I know this card is "supposed" to run hot but it still worries me. I was ideally looking to go with an nvidia card but I bought this one for $150 of craigslist so it seemed worth it. Is there a cheap fix to the heating issues? Is something like this worth investing in? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835186097 I don't feel like buying after market cooling now because than I might as well have bought a 970. I may buy it in a few months, but is there an easy fix such as replacing the stock fan or removing the chasis of the card? Bear in mind I have never modded a gpu.

Thanks and sorry for the long and indirect questions, basically I'm just second guessing my purchase haha.

Admirable
Get a kill-a-watt and find out.

Because of the TDP, AMD cards run hotter, even with custom coolers. Why don't you see what your temps are before worrying about that? Perhaps you can simply improve your airflow.

Well it runs at 95 c under load, which again is supposedly standard, but still worrisome. That's why I was hoping for a quick/cheap fix such as replacing the stock fan, but I don't know if this is possible or worth it. If not I may buy after-market cooling down the line.

This is my case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811139027
I have 2 intake fans in front and 4 exhaust fans( 2 at top of case, 1 by cpu, and 1 at bottom under the video card). They are all 120 mm. This case limits the cooling a tad, but again from what I've researched it's very standard for first generation 290x cards to get to 95c. I was hoping to reduce fan noise and increase card longevity. I personally doubt case cooling will improve my temps much.

Oh and my cpu temps are fine, basically in the 30-50 range depending on load.
