Hi,

I'd made it past the castle, and died but it raised a couple of questions.

3.4.3 1037354 1 30 31 115 145 1 20050312 20050307 1 Val Hum Fem Neu
Aleria,poisoned by Juiblex

1>How do you kill Asmodeus ? I had a blessed +4 Magicbane, but I
couldn't kill him
he just kept teleporting. Is this like the Quest guy where he is
teleporting to the
stairway up?

2> I had Poison Resistance, but still died from Juiblex poisoning me.
Why?

3> Disenchanters - Anyway to stop them ?

You could always use your telepathy to check and see if he goes there...
But yeah- many things in hell do that.
Also, if you were a valkyrie, why on earth were you using magicbane in
combat?? You really should have another source of MR by then--
as a walking around avoiding curses thing thats fine, but for
fighting, a much better choice would have been for example two-weaponing
+6 Mojo with +6 silver saber.

Even though the tombstone says poisoned, your should have gotten the message
"You feel deathly sick", and your status line would have said "Ill".
Disease is not covered by poison resistance and fixing it is a VERY high
priority, as it will prove fatal in a very few number of turns.

> 3> Disenchanters - Anyway to stop them ?

Kill them from a distance (zap them with wands, shoot them with things,
etc). They respect the E word.

BTW, the magic of Magicbane is less effective if too high enchanted.

Exactly. You may follow him to the upstairs, but it's easier (i.e. not so
far to travel) to proceed down with him adjacent and kill him downstairs
while _you_ are standing on the up-stairs.

There is also another way of instant-kill him.

That's a severe disease attack, no simple poison. You have to cure yourself
quite immediately after being infected.

There is a possibility to kill him with two actions.

> 3> Disenchanters - Anyway to stop them ?

They have a lot of HP's; keep them at distance. Or genocide them if you are
annoyed (like I am) to evade them.

You can also cancel them, IIRC.

Yes. Your best bet is to make it to the upstairs before him. IIRC, all
the named demons will follow you down the stairs, so wait until he is
next to you, and then go down. You may not end up on the upstairs at the
first try, however.

> 2> I had Poison Resistance, but still died from Juiblex poisoning me.

Because Juiblex causes sickness which is distinct from poison. Sickness
can be cured by, among other things, a non-cursed unicorn horn or the
cure sickness spell. There is also another nasty demon with a sickness
attack, but let us hope you don't run into him.

> 3> Disenchanters - Anyway to stop them ?

They can be quite annoying. I usually let my pets deal with them, but
any ranged attack will do fine. By the time you meet disenchanters you
should have lots of spare wands, maybe some potent attack spells and
perhaps even a stack of enchanted daggers. (Of course, I neglected to
mention that in my current game I'm right next to a disenchanter with
none of the above, so perhaps I should take my own advice from time to
time :)

It was a wierd game. I had no other magic resistance, or even teleport
control.
I had a +3 Mojo and used that for my distance attack. And the telepathy
didn't
show anything but question marks, and whatever the invisible purple
questionmark I
was fighting was, it must have had a cursed wand of create monster or
something because every time I got near it, I was surrounded by 20 monsters.
So I couldn't range atatck the disenchanters.

I'd had just 2 wishes the entire game. I used the one from the castle
on a magic marker and
the other was early in the game and I got silver dragon scalemail. I had a
charging scroll, but
it got burned up in the castle...So using my marker I wrote a blessed one,
but the wand blew up.
I never genocided anything (if I had it would have been mindflayers. Even
though I had greased my
helmet, it wore off after each attack, and I couldn't kill them fast
enough.) I used my marker
to increase all my armor enchantments.

Oh well, guess I go try again. Thanks for the help !

When you find a wand of wishing, if you dont have blessed scroll of charging
(or an uncursed one you can bless, or way to make one etc), then the
first thing you need is a b?oC... use your first wish on that.
Then use whatever other wishes the wand has, then recharge the wand.
That gives you 3 more wishes. After you go through those, you can
get 1 more by repeatedly trying to zap the wand till it gives you one
last wish and crumbles to dust...

That gives you at least 4 useful wishes from the wand..

Better yet, wish for two of them.

Asmodeus is a cheap cheap date. It's almost always better to pay him the
$ that he asks for instead of fighting.

And yes most of the named monsters with controlled teleport will teleport
to the upstairs to rest and heal.

Because Jublex can. Cure sickness, full healing (I think), and holy water
are the best combatants against Jubilex.

You'll find that with almost all of the named demons in Gehennom, that you
simply have to be prepared for them.

Genocide?

Wands?

You can't just whack everything.

Holy water is good only for non-chaotics.

Well of course you can whack disenchanters to death! Just use something
with zero enchantment, and nothing bad will happen to your weapon.

Yes you do, as confirmed by the spoilers and a wizmode test.

so long!

Not bad advice, although it's certainly possible to ascend using only a
+2 Magicbane to hack everything to little pieces.

Note that magicbane will grant you protectioni from magic as long as
you're holding it - you don't have to be wielding it at the moment!

Congrats :)

I use pets. I've wished for a "Magic whistle" before, if I didn't have
one, just so I could have pets around. They're not super great at some
things, but they do keep nasties away you don't want to deal with yourself.

On a side note, purple worms do make great pets in Hell.
