Questions for ram upgrade - Input appreciated!

Hello all,

I think i'm about to upgrade my GFX Card from a 5870 to a 7970. Got me thinking about my 6GB ram situation as well. Im using this atm:

CORSAIR DOMINATOR 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Triple Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model TR3X6G1600C8D

It is avail out of stock on amazon for $60ish but dont really feel liek waiting. It says there is a newer version referred to here.

Corsair Dominator 6 GB PC3-12800 1600MHz 240-pin Triple Channel Core i7 DDR3 CAS 8 Memory Kit CMP6GX3M3A1600C8

1. Would these be compatible with each other?

2. What kind of gains would I see going from 6gb to 12gb?

They would be compatible, and you'll only really see the difference if your photo/video editing or 3D modelling, things that use a lot of RAM. If you're not seeing your RAM taxed out in task manager or what not, I would say you can get it for bragging, but may not NEED it 😉
