A while back I posted a thread asking how to install an SSD, but I'm still not 100% shure what to do. I have my SSD, it's a HP ex900, so a DRAMless NVMe M.2, but I don't know where to start the installation process(software side). I found an old video from when Linus still worked for NCIX, and that seemed like what I needed, but I'm having my doubts about whether or not that'll get me the most out of my m.2 or even work. Anyway, is there a way to make a ssd the main boot without having to manually copy your old computer? Or is the best thing to do move all the files from hdd to an external drive, plug out hdd, do fresh install of windows on M.2, format hdd, than move the files from the external drive to the desired location on the pc?

agree may be best to just grab the latest win10 1903 and start fresh - I usually pull the original disk then do the install SSD only.

Once that's good, install the original disk back in then boot up a disk partition utility like gparted then disable the boot flag on the original disk (because windows boot manager is stupid if you have both disks installed and bootable). Then you can boot the SSD system and recover any files and manage partitions on the original disk as you like.

This will be the best way. Formatting the internal HDD will also clear its OS, so it won't create a problem when you plug it back in.

Alternatively, you can simply disable the HDD using BIOS during OS installation. This way you won't have to unplug and plug it back. After installation copy the HDD contents to an external HDD, format it and copy the contents back.

For a guy posting on here who doesn't know what he's doing - the BIOS is where he shouldn't be going.... not good advice for someone who is very new at this.
