Questions on upgrading desktop

so im looking to upgrade my e Machines desktop to make it better for gaming. I am thinking about upgrading the ram and get a new graphics card. would this be an easy project for someone not very experienced in this sort of thing.

It's pretty easy. There are youtube videos that show you how to do it. Just search for something like "install video card", "install RAM". The procedure is very similar regardless of what kind of computer you have.

Installing a video card may require you to install a new Power Supply (PSU) as well since brandname PCs usually ships with a 220w to 300w PSU. Therefore, you should list the model of your computer and all the specs including the PSU. Replacing the PSU depends on which video card you want to buy.

A lowly Radeon HD 6450 is not really meant to play games only consumes 15w of power. A monster like the nVidia GTX 580 needs 326w of power just for itself, never mind what the rest of the PC needs.

Your PC is more or less obsolete for gaming purposes. Plus you need to provide the power supply (PSU) that comes with it. You need to open your PC look at the sticker on the PSU for total wattage and the amps (A) on the +12v rail.

Your PC is more or less obsolete because you only have a single core CPU and the Intel Pentium 4 is consider slow by today's standard. Many current games requires a dual core CPU. There are still some relatively current games that can be played with a single core CPU though.

While upgrading your PC with more RAM, a video card and PSU (depending on the the video card) can "breathe more life into your PC", it's more like extending life support. If you can afford to do so, I recommend you buy a new PC.

there is no way i can afford a new PC. say if i bought a new video card, upgraded the ram, and got a new power supply, would this boost my PC enough to run games like skyrim or battlefield 3 with no frame rate issues. because i currently use a dell insprion laptop (my e Machines PC has been out of commission for a while) and i get serious frame rate issues when i play newer games such as bulletstorm. when i seem to play these higher end titles i experience sluggish and unresponsive controls. will i experience these issues if i upgrade the PC.

BF3 is out of the question. You definately need a dual core cpu and it requires Windows Vista or Win 7
