I am in the throes of some house renovations, so I may not get around to
writing full reviews of these games (sorry Alkis). I'll at least make a
few comments about them:
Other Worlds:
Traversal from scene to scene was sometimes problematic
A few puzzles are really impossible to solve without help.
Good game (especially for the price 🙂
Not a polished product, but playable -- we had fun
Recommended
Sherlock Holmes: Secret of the Silver Earring
Timed "sneaking" sequences
Timed sequence inside a maze to really piss us off
Final solution too complex to be believed
Some (many?) of Sherlock's "deductions" outlandish
Not really recommended, but I don't feel like trashing it either
Tony Tough:
Wouldn't work on my old computer
Works fine on my new machine (XP, ATI video card)
Amusing, lots of dialog
Really ridiculous plot
Award for best joke in a game (try to give a plum to the jester)
Some puzzles were impossible to solve without hints
Main character's voice can be irritating
Enjoyed the game, recommended
Gilbert Goodmate:
Another game that wouldn't work on my old machine
Also worked perfectly with ATI card and XP
Lots of dialog, lots of humour (almost all of it funny)
Really great voice acting
A ridiculous plot that somehow works
Some puzzles were impossible without hints
No dying, a few timed sequences
We *really* enjoyed this game (I want more!)
Highly recommended
Return to Mysterious Island:
See Andrew Plotkin's review
See Jenny100's review
Superbly designed puzzles with multiple solutions
Too short
Highly recommended
