Question Quick peek at my PC parts

Hello,

I'm about to buy some parts and would appreciate a quick once-over. I started with the "Against the Grain" by Tennis2 and bumped up a couple of things. This is for 1080 gaming exclusively. Budget isn't super tight but happy to spend less if I can cut some corners that aren't too big of a deal. Thanks for looking at my proposed build :)

Are you looking to use it only for gaming? and there's an article on what is best for 1080P gaming and such on tomshardware and it is pretty recent check it out here

This is what I would do, but it's a bit more expensive. If it's too much, you can pick and choose what you like from it. Different case if you prefer it. Better MB, better SSD, Better GPU, quality PSU. If you live near a Micro Center, you can save even more.

You might do better with an AMD build. Are you definite on Intel?

If you still want the 580 you can get this one for $170 plus some games:

I'm not definite on intel....I just thought that clock speed was more important than number of cores for games...but I'm sure it's more complicated than that LOL. It looks like the 580 is a bit slower than the 1660 but....cheaper and a couple of games, it's like 50-100$ cheaper depending on how much you (I) value the games. Hmmmmm....

I took a look. It seems like the Intel i3-8100 is equivalent to the Ryzen 5 2600X (or maybe a 2600 ovreclocked.) The Ryzen deals seem to have dried up suddenly, perhaps in anticipation of the Ryzen 3000 announcements coming next week. At some point those may affect prices on both AMD and Intel chips. The Ryzen upgrade path may be a bit better, but you still have plenty of room for upgrades with an Intel i5 or i7.

If you decide to go with a 580 GPU, read reviews on each card to see which one would be best for you.

Checking some games it looks like the Ryzen 2600 (and 2600X) are a bit better than the Intel 8100. Plus you get 6 cores which may provide more "future proofing" than the 4 core 8100. You can also overclock that 2600 a bit. I think I would wait until next week if you are not in a hurry. If you can't wait, I can generate a Ryzen part picker list for you to evaluate.

The MB is not as nice, but its a nice upgrade on the CPU. You can still wait until next week if you want. This deal will probably be gone, but something else will probalby take its place.

With the money saved, I would add some storage. Use the SSD for your C-Drive and game storage. Use the HDD for documants, videos, photos, and other data. If there is any corruption, you can re-format your C-drive without losing your data. I forgot that the 9400F is loud. You'll probably want a cooler for it.

You will need to call Newegg and make sure that the MB has been upodated with the newest BIOS so that it can use the 9400F. It's offered as a combo, so I would be surprised if it doesn't come with the newest BIOS for Intel 9th gen chips. Nevermind, it says "Supports 9th/8th Gen Intel Core"

This combo would be nicer for $21 more, but I know, it's getting expensive! You get 4 RAM slots (versus 2), 2 M.2 slots (versus 1), 5 versus 1 rear USB 3 ports, and probably a better voltage regulation module for the CPU (and a full size ATX MB would look nicer in that MasterBox case.)

Maybe, get this combo now, and add the additional storage later.
