quick question about cpu-z

my settings in bios
intel e6420
multiplier *6 x 450 bus speed = 2700mhz

vista 64
in computer properties, it shows 3600mhz. also orthos the stress tester shows 3600mhz too. only cpu-z shows the correct speed which is 2700mhz.

which one is correct?? 2700mhz or 3600mhz

Well CPU-Z does, if thats what its set to in your BIOS.


What a strange problem.. just rely on what BIOS sais its the one you can trust.

Yeah I have the same problem. CPUz is right.

My guess is the proprties and Orthos are reading the default multiplier from the CPU not the value from the BIOS. So from the 8x on that CPU, 450 x 8 = 3600MHz

Probably due to one of the power saving features on Intel CPU's, it reduced the multiplier when at idle to save energy. So Orthos and System properties may be assuming the lower multiplier is incorrect and use the default instead.

No idea how you guessed that, good one though. Sounds right.

Try adjusting the multi a bit mroe to see if he's right.
